I was hoping to be politically relevant today and post a photo of delightful little painted button quail we have been treating at Kanyana for some weeks now. I thought I could send the link to Dick Cheney to give him a better idea of what he should be aiming for. But then I got to thinking about it, and I realised that if I had the choice of using my shotgun on a small defenseless native bird, or a republican lawyer, well - I wouldn't think twice really. So instead I might just send him some more pictures of objectionable lawyers, such as the legendary Jack Thompson. This young night heron looks nothing like the adult of the species, but man, what a gaze! This poor guy had been caught up in a barb wire fence causing massive damage to the inside of his right wing. He has since been released from Kanyana. Pic of the day: I am loving Leisa's blog "Nature's Pixel", and this stunning close up of a flamingo is just wild.

Stunning. I love how he's standing on one leg like that. Such detail, great portrait.

Yes... that is an amazing photo. And... yes he is different from his, her parents. Their rump tail and neck Grey; crown and back Darck oily green; below White. In breeding dress the crown and back turn Dark Blue.

Gah - I'm so sorry Leisa - Gaff fixed. I should know! Considering my name is spelled the same way round.

The other leg is completely hidden from view. The empty space on the left is good.
