A rufous hare-wallaby at the Project Eden breeding program in Shark Bay, Western Australia. Now extinct in the wild, these small macropods can only be seen on a couple of islands off the West Australian coast and in DEC breeding programs. They were once widespread across the central arid areas of Australia. To the Anangu people in central Australia they are important ancestral beings. Until feral cats can be controlled in the outback their recovery simply won't happen.
