More than anything, I love the discoveries I make while doing my photography. I had no idea, until I took these photos, just how colourful the face of our common shag - the Australian Pied Cormorant (Phalacrocorax varius) - really is. I have done minimal processing here - the main difference between this image and what I saw in the clinic when I shot this - was that the gullet seemed a stronger red in real life.
